Complete rubbish, unless you're impressed by the staggering weight of 800 years of the cream of Britain's wealth of architecture and intellectual history towering over you from all sides!

And there's the pubs and stuff. You'll love it.

    Are you going in term-time?

Ah well, you'll get the full under-graduate atmosphere, then. Lots of well-heeled young toffs, far too clever for their own good, cycling around speaking in frightfully well-bred accents.

        When you going?

The first Strongylodon trusses are imminent at the botanic gardens, so if you've never seen it before that is a must!

Then a five minutes walk to the Cowley Road for food and fun!

As JWK said, get to the cheese shop in the covered market and get some Oxford Blue - it's the racing dogs wotsits!

Avoid the High Street, Queen Street and Cornmarket Street like the plague though.

I used to eat here occasionally http://www.hilojamaicaneatinghouse.co.uk/ but it may not be as friendly these days http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...iend-guilty-hacksaw-attack-cafe-customer.html

I'm amazed that Uhuru Wholefoods are still there http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uhuru_(wholefoods_shop) athough the nearby alternative bookshop http://www.oxfordmail.co.uk/business/news/8814412.Inner_Bookshop_for_sale/ appears to have moved away/been sold. The secondhand clothes shops have also gone.

The Penultimate Picture Palace (cheap 'alternative' films + amazing original 1930's building/furnishings) seems to be still going but called The Ultimate Picture Palace http://www.uppcinema.co.uk/

'The shark' may still be there, but we didn't notice it on our daughter's Uni visit a while ago but it was a long day http://www.headington.org.uk/shark/

It's still friendly. I know Andy well - two sides to every story and all that..........

It was run for a good while by Bill Heine, onto whose home the Shark was erected. Haven't been up there for three years or more, but I'm sure that it's still there.
