Well its worth a try I guess with the Brahea, personally I think the cycad is probably the hardier of the two, but unless we get a string of winters like the last one we are in for a hiding.

Just out of interest, I pot grew a CIDP for many years just by sawing off the bottom 4ins of roots and then putting back in the same pot with a bit of new compost at the base, only cut it every other year though.
Got a feeling it would work with cycads, but the roots are a bit softer and fleshier.

On another forum there is a member who is growing his in the ground he's only 30 miles away.
He's been growing it since 2011 with no protection and looks healthy.
He adviced though they really dislike root disturbance, don't under any circumstances break any roots.
Worth giving it a go it cost £26.29

I have a Brahia amata which has survived the past 2 winters with a fleece covering.

Bought a Cycas revoluta on the weekend, so will see how that fares.

I've got one left from a batch of seed I sowed about 5 yrs ago, its still only about a foot high.

Not really, a soak for 24 hours shouldn't hurt, and then about 25C for germination.
If the seed is fresh it will come up like cress.

Cordyline australis (with Musa basjoo straw cages inbetween). The end Cordyline has taken a bit of wind damage over winter and was starting to lean over, so I'm trying to support it:

                      The perils of buying online.
Went to plant the chamaerops out this morning
Looked good up top but Emptied the pot and guess what?
                      image.jpg
                      Hardly any roots :gaah:
Looks like its recently been potted up.
Carefully teased the roots that were tightly wrapped around the base out
Anyway it's in the ground now so fingers crossed.
I've ordered some palm booster that highly regarded on another forum to help establish the roots
Also sent them a email too I await there response

But apparently they are good at replacing plant???
We'll see if/when they respond to my email.
                          It's just frustrating
