    Don't think there's any effective deterrent so wire mesh is the best option.
    It's been a disheartening year here as the wildlife, although pleasant to share a space with, have destroyed all fruit. Parakeets, squirrels and jays especially have stripped the apples, pears, bulbs ...

      The advantage of wire mesh is that it can be cut to size and buried just below the surface of the compost in pots and the bulbs will grow through the gaps.
