Pest Brown Bug Identification and Control

Hi everyone. My first post, and it's a problem I could really use help with.

My small garden in Horsham, West Sussex, is inundated with these brown bugs. I'm not quite sure what they are...my best guess from research was maybe a Tarnish Bug?

However, I would love some advice as to what anyone else thinks they are and what I can do about them?

They are on everything, and they like to swarm/clump under leaves, in flowers, on the strings of glue traps (avoiding the glue trap of course!).

I can't really see the bugs close up, here's a link to a bug site for the UK to see if you can identify it, if it is a tarnish bug they can become a real pest for berry trees.

I would try to help if you added a really sharp clear pics to show a single beast.
I have never seen an infestation like this before.
Horsham seems to be a hot spot for bugs .
April last year you had trouble but from a very different fly.

Thanks woo..I tried the same ..but still cannot see any real detail.

 

Not sure what the flies are and they do look like the tarnish bug pictures I have found. To control them maybe putting a nest box or two for some of the smaller bird species might encourage the flies to go somewhere else or get eaten. Here is a link to a site with more details. Just was looking at some small tits searching outside in my own garden for food and I think they would appreciate a meal close to where they might be nesting. I think the dense hawthorn near where I live gives them plenty of places to build their own nests here.

 

Hi @wiseowl. Sorry I cant' help with that as I don't get those flies in my own garden as far as I know so getting a photo of them could be a bit difficult. It was the opening poster who had some photos and I was just making the suggestion that small bird nest boxes might be some sort of solution to their problem regardless of what type of flies they are. Maybe a bird feeder in winter might help them as well.

We also have some swallow nests that they constructed themselves in the eaves of the garage and the house so our flies live in a high risk air space around here.
