Hello, 1st post please go easy...

I have a few potted Phoenix Palms which don't seem to be doing so well, they have a few lower brown branches (should I cut these?) and they don't seem to grow much, would they be better in the ground than in a pot? We have clay soil here and it is sometimes boggy.

What is the best stuff to feed my palms please?

    Thanks for reading. Conbrue.

Phoenix (canariensis) is only border line hardy.
And boggy soil is no good for it.
Needs well drained soil with some sort of winter protection.

If you are after a tropical effect, there are hardier palms
Trachycarpus and Chamaerops have a much better chance of success.

I agree regarding hardiness, they are not very hardy with me, killed a few over the years.

I also agree that they will not like boggy ground, so I'd continue to pot grow unless you can find a well drained winter sunny spot.
Cut off any dead growth by all means.

        You dont give your location?

You can grow to a reasonable size even in a pot, but I usually root prune mine every other year.

          Hello, thanks for the replies,
I am in Bolton, my garden faces East and enjoys sheltered morning sun. What do you guys feed yours on? I also have 2 King Sago palms potted, one seems to do well but the other is browning a little

I just feed mine, when I think about it, on a balanced plant feed with trace elements.
Usually add some osmocote when repotting.
