    Hi All,

Hardy geraniums are my favourite plants. I have 11 different ones in my garden. I know what the other 10 are so this one is really niggling me! But these pink ones are so hard to distinguish from one another! Any thoughts?

    Thanks,

    Nick

@Janet mahay Thanks for the input, Janet! They do look very similar, don't they? Hmm, this thread seems to have had quite a few views, but only one reply. Perhaps I should edit my post so as not to sway people and just allow them to assess my geranium without preconceptions.

Good morning @Nikolaos my friend with respect there are at least 420 different species of Hardy Geraniums and if our members cannot identify your plants with 100% accuracy then they like me won't hazard just guessing,as you say your thread has had 38 views which means that many of our knowledgeable friends have looked at your images, there is no need to edit your thread please just be patient my friend,I have a collection of at least 18 different hardy geraniums but I haven't answered your question as I don't recognise your particular plant:smile:

Morning @wiseowl LOL you've already got me sussed mate, I tend to get very fixated on a subject when I first start learning about it, I have only really been studying hardy geraniums for a few weeks (and have only been a keen gardener for about 5 years). You're right, I need to learn to be far more patient! (and all that heat yesterday probably added to my agitation, much nicer weather for gardening today) :)

Considering my recent obsession with geraniums, I'll probably end up having 18 myself in about a fortnight's time! :heehee:

@Nikolaos my friend no worries I only have definite names for 16 of mine the other two were kindly given to me by a friend who didn't know their names so she couldn't tell me,but I find that the beauty and colour and scent are much more important than the name;)

@wiseowl Oh, some of the more strongly-scented foliage of hardy geraniums is lovely! I particularly like the scent of G. versicolor (Pencilled cranesbill) and G. cantabrigiense (Cambridge cranesbill). I even love the smell of Herb Robert, which a lot of people seem to hate!

I have a huge row of them, they are the purple blue type. have given away many roots over the years. very hardy, very strong. sometime I just toss them away. I love the denseness of them for weed control.

@Nikolaos , your asking about my photos? I don't usually put any up as this site does not directly take from my computer. however, I do have a You tube sight some are there.

here you go. in this video the goats beard has been moved and so also the extra hydrangea both doing well in new spots. but you can see lots of hardy geraniums.

@redstar Haha, such a funny coincidence! I just mentioned what excellent groundcover Geranium macrorrhizum is and there it is growing in your garden! Those leaves are (as you probably know) aromatic and I love their scent. I too have Spiderwort in my garden. I love the soft yellow of your azalea, beautiful! What a lovely garden, I could feel myself relaxing just watching that video, thanks for sharing.

@Nikolaos , yes I love their scent. had wondered how I can contain it in a liquid type to spray it in the house. thanks for looking.
