Fish blood and bone is slower reacting so much better, growmore will just wash away in the wet weather and is better for a quick boost.

Hey, i planted my garlic two weeks ago and i have green shoots already. Is this normal. I planted them 2 inches deep. They are not covered in mulch yet, and there has been a few frosts

@David Cook That's normal, they probably won't do much more above ground till spring. Hopefully they will be forming a good root system below ground. Mine will go in this weekend all being well and should emerge by mid November.

Where you say mulch, what should that be exactly please? I planted garlic mid September (newbie error me thinks) and have shoots about eight inches high now, the compost in the containers has dropped quite a way down so there is room to fill. Should I top them up, even cover all the growth? More compost or something else? Or just leave them and put fleece on them when it get cold? (not needed yet, 15 degrees here all night!).

Dont cover garlic, its perfectly hardy and will overwinter, growth will slow to a standstill, as Nigel says, and restart next spring.
