I'd say yes but not many, they will quickly foul the water without a filter.
And possibly struggle oxygen wise in hot weather.

Also bear in mind they grow, so a few tiny ones might be ok for a year or two, but struggle as they get bigger.

Id still put some sort of fountain or bubbling water pump in on a timer so oxygen is added to the pond saving the fish. My lillies dont seem bothered by the moving water as its on a timer coming on 6 times a day for only 10 mins a go.

I have 2 goldfish in a barrel. No filter, pump, or what movement of any sorts.
So far, 2 years later, they seem ok.

I have Elodia in the barrel for Oxygenation.
And add fresh water every 2nd day or so.

@wiseowl He must have a lot of oxygenating plants in there then, I notice that the fish are all at the surface which is of course where the oxygen enters the water. I still think a small fountain would not only look nice but keep the water well oxygenated. A filter also would help keep the water nice and clean.

The pond is 30yrs old, how old are the fish?

Looks a bit unreal to me Woo, no filter, no weed, no algae, no plants?

I think the secret of a pond like that needs to be told to the world.

But why would you want a pond without plants and a filter? and why are all the fish at the surface? are they all gasping for some air?? :dunno:

Only ponds that I have seen with sparkling clear water, and no plants have been koi ponds which usually involve quite a bit of filtration.

If my fish were that exposed, with no cover, every heron in the neighbourhood would be queueing up.
