Yes just viewed them, the Arran pilots are sprouting now :blue thumb: I dumped the Sarpo as they were a bit spongey . Is it best to leave them covered or should I just put them on an egg box in a warm place ?

If putting in an egg box, those fine white roots coming from the base of the sprouts will be 'air pruned', but it doesn't appear as if there's sufficient to worry about that, so either plant now, or delay or a while if that's more convenient.

Yesterday I finished planting all my seed spuds in 10L to 30L pots and got them into a polytunnel. The Sarpo Mira were the most difficult to get sprouting out of 11 varieties.

If growing potatoes in a bag, is it best mixing compost with granula fertiliser and filling the bag to about 6” and then adding 5 seed potatoes (with all shoots left on), cover with 6” of mix again and then top up as shoots start to come through the compost? Or is there a better/easier way to guarantee a big yield?

@kazzawazza , I am using the plastic Trugs for growing my spuds . These are about 40 litres capacity. The article below suggests 1 seed potato to 10 litres , so I will be placing 4 in each trug. Only grown them once before , so others on here will have more know-how on this .

I am not an expert on growing potatoes in bags but think putting 5 seed potatoes in a bag is a bit too many. I was told to put 2 in 70ltrs compost bags. Happy to be told i'm incorrect tho. It could well be the case as with other things that you're better to grow a few in plenty of space rather than cram a whole load in a small 1.
