Oh wow, thank you so much, that’s a job for today and when I empty the next bucket of charlottes I’ll sow more. Thanks for your help @Thevictorian and have a lovely day :spinning:

I dug Swift yesterday, mostly a good size, a few small ones but that's usual. I think we can stop buying them now. Plenty more to come.

Emptied my last (only did two!) bucket of Charlottes today, happy with the harvest. Will definitely be doing them again next year, more buckets and will leave them at least 12 weeks (if I can stop myself!!).

They look like a good size for Charlotte. They are a salad variety after all.

Oo well done those with harvest. I’m going to tip my Charlottes out the next few days, as they’ve had 12 weeks and the drooping foliage is annoying me now.

                I’ve harvested! …

                First time growing any potatoes.

Not quite self-sufficient but enough for a few meals.

Well, I planted these King Edward seed potatoes in March. two S/Ps per 30 litre plastic pot.
Lots of foliage. I had a furtle this morning -- no potatoes so far.
Probably need to wait until September.

                    What I have learned:

                    • The old recycling tub is more than adequate for 6 ‘seed’ potatoes
                    • Probably didn’t need the extra collar (which was a faff)
                    • 12 weeks is bob-on for Charlottes
                    • Only fed once which seems ok
                    • Cost probably break-even with all the compost so if can do with more home-made then better value
                    • If they taste better than shop bought, worth it.

I just use garden soil, potatoes don't need anything special. I top up with grass clippings as a mulch.

                        That’s good to know @JWK.

The potatoes were absolute delicious- thin, silky skin and melt in the mouth. Plenty left. I will definitely do again next year.

Glad to hear about your success. I agree that home grown early or second early spuds have a special flavour. Very different to shop bought, as with most home grown veg.
We had some fresh peas yesterday, we all know that frozen peas are great, they are picked packed and frozen with a couple of hours and for long term convenience, unmatched. As my wife said yesterday the fresh ones from the plots are another level entirely, t we know people who say they can't tell the difference, but if you can, it's worth it.

Nice to see so many folk lifting tatties already, my PFA are flowering and look to be thriving, over 3 feet tall(I never really went metric lol), the Buster are just flowering, but the plants are tiny, less than a foot tall. The Winston are thriving, a couple of feet tall, but little signs of flowers, yet all are past 12 weeks in the ground....................patience.................patience lol

I didn't get any flowers on my Winston this year. They are coming up jacket baking size now, an excellent crop and taste.
