    Morning all,

My potatoes have started to flower..does this mean they are ready to harvest?

Is flowering a good indicator that they are ready?

Thank you for your replies :)

1st earlies 10-12 weeks from planting, you could always have a furtle around the base of the plant. Gently scrape away the soil with your fingertips, see what's under there.

    Steve...:)

I wait till the plant dies back, but I just want potatoes, not tender new potatoes. I also am in a different climate so disregard and go with Steve. I do get lovely potatoes though.

Some would harvest theirs at the flowering stage because they prefer small potatoes. I always wait until the flowers have died and more than not until the foliage starts to die. I am of the opinion that the taste is the same and you can always cut the larger ones into two or three even slices.
