A few years back I saw in the grounds of a private property what I would call a Propogation Box. It was cube shaped, about 3' square standing on legs about 3' high. The box contained young Yew trees & was called something like a 'Duneman' (my spelling) Box. Can anyone tell me the correct spelling as I'm interested to know more about these boxes & their history.

Just wondering if it might have been one of the cases that plant collectors use to use to bring home specimens

I know they are called wardian cases but not sure if that is what you are talking about but here is some info anyway

Thanks for your reply Dips. No it's not a Wardian Case. Best description would be that it resembles the old-style food safe, used to keep food cool prior to fridges. Instead of the safes perforated zinc panels the propogation box has glass/clear plastic sides with, I assume ventilation slots. I guess it's the sort of thing that research units would use for propogation. I've never seen another one.
