        Actually, they're a northern hemisphere plant so are, generally, not likely to be attacked by monkeys. :)

            I'm sure we've previously had post on here by somebody trying to grow Sunflowers in pots on their balcony in South America (I remember stuff like that, but can't remember what I did last night).

            Squirrels will climb sturdy sunflowers to eat the seeds.
