I have bought today a rooted raspberry cutting about 20 cm long/there were some without gems, some with one short gem and some with a long developed gem. I choosed one with a gem just sprooting out, was it a good choice?
Ps it came wrapped in plastic shall I leave it soaking for a while?

I must be being thick. What is "gem" in this context please?

Raspberry canes should be cut down to the ground after planting, so top growth is not important. No crop in the first season (although if its an Autumn fruiting variety you will probably get a light crop - although it may be prudent to prevent it fruiting to build up the roots, as it is from the suckers that next year's crop will come)

Am I reading it right that you have a single plant? I reckon you need 10 "canes" to get a decent sized meal off, although perhaps you could manage with fewer than that.

Sorry if I've got completely the wrong end of the stick
