I forgot to prune my raspberry plants at the end of last year, so will need to do them tomorrow; as far as I know, they are summer fruiting (they start pretty early, and are all done by September-ish), so can anyone tell me how hard I need to chop them?

Summer fruiting Raspberry's are easy to prune....this link might help
you better, basically Summer fruiting you cut down the 2 year old canes
and with the Autumn fruiting you cut them all down.

Just make sure you only chop out the old canes, should be fine.

Summer Fruiting: Chop after their second year, after they have fruited.
Autumn Fruiting: Chop at the end of the year, after they have fruited.

Raspberries leave a small conical shaped stem (pea sized) behind when you pick them, so the safest and best way to approach pruning Raspberries, especially if you have a mix of summer and autumn, is to prune out all stems that have the conical stem left behind that tells you it has fruited.

          Steve...:)
