    I tried growing sweetcorn this year. It's done very well, with several cobs per plant. They look the right size for picking - but how can I tell when they're ripe enough please?

    Two things for me JJ28 ......first when the tuffs turn brown then the thumbnail test; if juice runs out when you press your thumbnail into it then it is ready :)

    Thank you for advice Verdun - silly question....but do I press thumbnail in through the leaves or peel back?
