I'm growing a Red Robin hedge, it's now about two and half years since I planted it. I have previously snipped off the growing tips to make them more bushy. They're looking fine, and are now over 2ft. At the moment they're starting to flower. Should I snip the flowers off to encourage more growth? I also think it's due another tip clip.

I've not grown Red Robin before so any advice is welcome :)

    Hi

March is the ideal time to give them a trim to keep them in shape , enjoy the flowers a quick snip when they have FINISHED, let and insects enjoy a feed. Leaving them on causes no growth change.
    Hope that helps

Thank you for your reply, that's good news the flowers won't set the hedge back.

If you want more height, don't clip the tops again.

I've seen this plant used as tall, narrow hedges in a beautiful water garden in Belgium. The regular clipping of those hedges meant they had new red shoots nearly all the way thru the growing season and they looked fab. Since I last visited 10 years ago, they have planted some red robin columns which look really good - Home - Les Jardins d'Annevoie

That's interesting. I could let the row between my front garden and next door grow taller. The front of the house hedge will need to be less than 4 ft high so I can safely get my car out. There's no pavement in front of my house. Thanks for the suggestion :)
