It's amazing where they all come from! Let's hope the new grass get's to grow now and the slugs will leave it alone as it establishes. :)

I never knew slugs ate grass . Thought they waited for my Begonias and Dahlias !
Why don't they eat the grass growing out of my drive ? Why does grass grow on my drive and fails to germinate on my scarified top dressed and reseeded lawns ? :gaah:

Yeah, I saw the buggers chewing on my baby grass.

Sheal I think they have eaten most of what was there germinating and I have not bothered with any more seed. If something grows it grows. If it does not. I am going out there early spring with the seed.

I set five traps outside and the areas where there is no grass. That is where they congregate. So no wonder nothing is growing, they ate everything. Anything that has escaped the traps should die via pellets.

They will wait for your Begonias and Dahlias Harry unless you've sown some new grass, it's the tender new shoots they're after.

The grass grows on your drive because it's not the same as what you grow on your lawn, it's tougher and harder to get rid of. :)

Early spring is no good Mosamahab, the temperature needs to be above 12C constantly. :)

More like mid to late April. March I am pretty sure is a no go because it is normally quite cold. However I have also been reading up on a phenomenon called dormant seeding.

Regardless, I know what is done is done now. I mean I have plenty of seed that I could put down right now and have plenty left over for over seeding next year but I do not see much of a point in it. As I think the night time temperature will soon be reaching 0 degrees which essentially means that the ground is even colder. You always get a warm few days here and there in autumn but mostly it is quite cold at night.

At least I don't have to start from scratch and it is mostly just killing weeds with verdone and over seeding the thin/bare areas. Plus I've never actually witnessed spring lawn growth as our gardens have always been weed infested so it might actually look a lot thicker and completely different than it does now.

Back garden update. My blade is sharp and I am cutting the grass high.

Fungus ? Grass is always wet with night dew and not enough sunlight during day time 20151013_152743.jpg 20151013_152757.jpg 20151013_152849.jpg

Some parts are very green whilst others are yellow. Just different type of grass or something else ? 20151013_153010_HDR.jpg 20151013_153019_HDR.jpg 20151013_153031_HDR.jpg 20151013_153052_HDR.jpg

It's probably lack of sun at the moment, it needs to dry out. I shouldn't worry to much about it at this point. :)

Fair enough. I'll leave it be.

It looks nice when you look at it from this angle.

Yes it does look nice Mosamahab. It also looks as if it needs a cut to me. :)

I cut it just Friday gone. Its at 9cm height right now. I've been cutting it every week. It has had five haircuts.

I am going to cut it tomorrow as I want to lower the height to 7cm.

I think it's probably ready for a lower cut now too, but I wouldn't lower it any further than 7cm before next spring, frosts are due anytime now.

I think this tomorrow, or the next one will be the last cut. For the back one at least.

The front has been cut at 5.5 cm twice as it has grown quite slow.

The best time to seed I would say is mid August. Heat is there, moisture and humidity. Gives the lawn plenty of time to get roots down and shoots up before the winter frosts.
