ive got rose that I believe is suffering with dieback that has reached the crown and is infected as the only growth it has is growing from the side of what looks like still alive part of the crown.
Is it possible to get the rose back to health or should I just bin it.

It’s a Gertrude Jekyll David Austin rose it’s four years old I have it planted with six other roses in this bed which are all growing away nicely and are all about a metre high Im concerned about the lack of growth.

Well @tangham my friend die back is very often caused by weather conditions, poor care and cultivation , diseases or any combination of these can be responsible.Poor pruning technique, particularly where the buds are damaged or long pruning stubs are left above them
and dirty secateurs and it has been neglected as I can see some black spot and thrip damage on it.
If it was my Rose and I had not cared for it this would be the result,I would cut it back to 12 inches give it some feed and then apologise to it;)

Good evening Woo. Forgive me but. I had to chuckle when reading your above comment. No offence my friend. 'Poor pruning technique, particularly where the buds are damaged or long pruning stubs are left above them. My mind has raced back to a cooment made by your good self. Who was it that used a chain saw in Greenwich Park?

Not to worry. I remember my dad once on the allottment. I'd planted several florabunders...Masquerade. " I've cut your roses back for you son. Yes he had. He'd chopped the lot back using his spade.

Strange but true. Next year, they were great.
