Would underplanting not use up the nutrients in the soil?

Negligible.....but, as I said, add (granular for me) feed during the growing season. Better to plant bulbs before main plant develops too many roots

          Oh well. Here goes nothing.

There’s no turning back now. What a beautiful day to be working outside.

I had already prepared the tub at home. I drilled holes in the base. I put in a layer of broken bricks and then levelled it off with bark chippings.

Stage 1 complete. Fill the tub to approx 4” from the top. Put in the rose root. Randomly scatter mixed triteleia bulbs. Cover with a layer of bonemeal.

Stage 2. Tub filled with compost. Red riding hood tulips added. Daffodils, snowdrops and blue anemone blanda all planted in. (I planted the Blue blanda after I took the photo.) Just needs a top layer of bark chippings mulch to finish it off.

Job done. It doesn’t look too neat just yet but I’m hoping the plants will sort themselves out in time. Next year if not this. The rose already has shoots on it so fingers crossed that it’s going to be a good one.

@Gail_68 There are 2. I am very familiar with them. :blue thumb: They have an excellent gardening section. One of them (recently opened) is on the same estate as Wilkinson’s and QD. It’s a budget gardeners paradise.

Ooh. It’s seems there are 3. My apologies. There is one in the centre of town I’ve never been to.
