Only got one rose in the garden, and that is there for sentimental reasons.

I tend to grow a lot of short lived flowers I know, but to me roses look good in bud, next day the petals start falling when the flower is fully open, then they look a mess.
Scented ones are nice, and I did some years ago see the rose garden at Wisley, looked, and smelt, very nice as a massive show, but cant do that without space.
One plant here and one there is not worth the effort IMO.

Hi @Sienna's Blossom , ours stay evergreen as well. Some years I have to cut the buds off in January/February just to force it to rest.

Love them or hate them, if you love roses they are very addictive. I promised myself I wouldn't have roses in my current rural garden as they would look out of place. But the bug has got me again and I currently have eight with others to follow, in my front garden. The roses I am choosing are single flowered. Rugosa's etc. more in keeping with the area. This is with the exception of one floribunda which was a gift from a fellow member here, and that has pride of place in a bed in my back garden. :)

At the garden fete I attended last weekend there was an attractive vivid red rose that caught my eye......no not the thorns . It was the scent that was truly amazing, almost enough for me to plant one. Fragrant Cloud. I just might get it :noidea: Maybe with spires of persicaria Blackfield

I have around 21/22 mixture of climbing/shrub floribunda roses which are mostly repeat flowering and scented. Some I bought in the 80's, 90's onwards and all have done a steriing job in the garden. All of the climbers either adorn the Arbour or the West bank of the Wild Life pond, while the shrub roses are in the borders. Due to my sandy, hungry soil I have to give the Shrub roses extra care and feeding but the climbers seem to like being on the pond bank and only need pruning to keeping them under control. They have repaid me by constantly filling the garden with flowers and scent..........and I would'nt be without them.:love30::)
