I sow some early runners under cover in the propagator in early April to plant out in May. These are my 'risky' plants that survive if the weather stays OK and give me slightly earlier cropping in good weather.

The next lot are sown late April and are ready to go out late May. Some of this lot are grown for sale on Open Day.

A further lot are sown early May to replace any that may have been eaten by nasties (slugs, rabbits, birds etc.) once they are planted in the garden.

My earliest, proper, crop of beans was July 7th 2008.
