"The fence", you mean they are putting up the fence already??????

I guess repairing that old wall is out of the question due to the cuts.

They did and in doing so ultimately did themselves no favours. But the miners strike was different - it was two huge egos going toe to toe and to hell with anyone who got in the way.

Because in her eyes the needs of the working man were a trifle compared to the needs of the City Of London.

The only thing she ever got right IMO. Milk truly is the spawn of the devil as far as drinking or smelling the stuff goes. Strangely, I love cream:noidea:

I polled "yes" as it's their choice. Personally I say NO!

Only because of a lack of skilled tradesmen. Thatchers legacy lives!

I see that Cameron, Milliband and Clegg are rushing up to Scotland tomorrow, I think this will back-fire for the 'No' campaign.

Michael Gove wanted to but it was decided that it was politically unpalatable. We need to start now on the five year olds with a totally different way of teaching. Sit down, shut up, listen, understand, write legibly, no computer homework, books marked once every ten to fourteen days (not once or twice a term), years divided into sets depending on aptitude and so on. We need to teach students to think, not just remember. Then in eleven, twelve, thirteen years we may have the basis to set about creating a skill base again.

                  Rant over.

But the way I see it is, if they do nothing the Scots will say that proves Westminster dont give a monkeys about them up there.

On the otherhand by going up there at this late point does make it all look like a panic job on their behalf.

I see the vote on here is still 16 against splitting and only 2 for. That's blown the you gov poll out of the water then.

No, I think most of us are not living in Scotland, so we dont get a vote.

Another point.......The Isle of Man is not part of the United Kingdom or the EU for that matter, it stands between all this and is thriving. Perhaps both the English and Scottish politicians should come and see how things work here, they may learn something from the oldest government in the world! :)

The Scots should be given the opportunity to go it alone whether they make a mess of it or not, it's their right just the same as any other country that has become independent. Wales was making sounds about it not so long ago and there's Southern Ireland just across the water too. Way back in time Cornwall was also independent, that was also taken away by the English!

The English/British are complaining about the liberties being taken by the EU, they are slowly taking our independence away and demoralising the whole of the nation. How long before the English fight back and reclaim their country? Now think about Scotland again!

Perhaps. But if the vote for independence they will not only be making a mess for themselves, but for the rest of the UK too.

It wouldn't be so bad if they actually had a plan. Salmond's plan seems to be to paint his face blue with a white cross on it, and yell "Freedom", and that's about where his plan ends.

Realistically, it will take a couple of decades to properly divorce Scotland from the rest of the UK without causing too much pain. The referendum is days away, and yet still there's nothing sorted about North Sea oil and gas, currency, how companies that operate in both England and Scotland will trade etc. Up here in the north east, much of our industry works hand in hand with industry in Scotland. They'll still be able to even if Scotland goes independent, but in the short term, how? The software developers haven't even got a spec yet for how to handle currency exchange rates and taxes and stuff in the accounting software. They can't, because it hasn't even been agreed at the top. Software changes take a while, especially in very large scale software. SAP is the big one. A "simple" change in that often has an 18 month turnaround.

And what about the military stuff? We've been told we have to get trident out by 2018. That's 4 years to find the suitable geography for the subs, and build all the infrastructure to house everything.

The forthcoming referendum would be a lot less worrying for everyone, on both sides of the border, if it wasn't being run by a complete nutter.
