:biggrin::biggrin: NigelJ, they have just recently discovered that the net of mushrooms and trees communicate with each other.
I left a link here in November about what nature does if it snows and said if plants flower in November then winter is in April. Gladioli are one of those that tell you when winter ends.
If they flower in August, winter will end at the end of March/beginning of April.

Fully aware of the WWW (wood wide web) Read Suzanne Simard on her work in old growth forest in Canada and Merlin Sheldrake on fungi; in fact the interconnectedness of plants has been known for millenia.
Times arrow points in only one direction and a plant or an animal cannot get information from the future their behaviour and growth, as an individual, is only influenced by the conditions they are then experiencing.
So it does not matter when your gladioli flower or your tomato seeds germinate they cannot be affected by the conditions in the season that has not yet happened.

@pete you may well be right about the GM being only some crop stuff. I just wondered whether some may have "crept in" despite checks.

NigelJ - it reminds me of when there is a good crop of holly berries and people say it means there is going to be a hard winter. I usually reply that it is much more likely to be due to favourable conditions in the previous seasons.
I also read those books - Merlin Sheldrake's was so fascinating I read all the notes at the end which I never normally do.
