Self propel failed

I purchased an old Honda GCV 160 mower for £25 to use solely at my allotment. The seller sold it cheaply due to the self propel giving up.
My plot is flat so I'm quite happy to push the machine and it works well.
My question is, would it be ok to cut the propel drive belt off?!
I guess it would create less drag but is this a good (or bad) idea..?
Any advise welcome.

 

I had a old Hayter and i took of all the drive belt and chain and had no problems, but i don't know about the honda if it only just does the drive then i can't see why not

If you can but some oil on the shaft of the roller it will help pushing it better

 

Does the blade brake function ok?
