We always try something new with gingerbread. This year we decided that the house will need glazed windows so enthusiastically decided to use crushed boiled sweets as advised by Google. There is only one way to crush boiled sweets, rather unfortunately we are yet to discover what it might be. :dunno:

Bashing with rolling pin utterly destroyed the plastic bag but left the sweets undamaged. Then I handed the Teenager who still has 10 fingers and doesn't dream of a career as a violinist our Japanese butchers' knife, to no avail. She then got fed up and bashed the bag on the floor- those sweets which stayed in their wrappers got perfectly smashed and those which escaped attached themselves on every possible surface up to waist height.

Should the Brexit famine hit, our family will survive weeks on licking our slippers.

Anyways, here's the nice neighbourhood, and the neighboring estate with a reputation:

Oh dear @Selleri I know exactly what you mean!!!!:yikes:

When I worked in childcare we attempted the melting of boiled sweets to make various Christmas decorations many, many times......with varying degrees of success!!
Thankfully the proud parents loved anything their children made even though they were unrecognizable!!:lunapic 130165696578242 5:

Yours look brilliant though, well done!:bigthumb:

I didn't get any nuts, walnuts or brazils, blimey what is christmas coming to.:smile:

You know, it's surprising how many houses around here don't have any outside, or seeable decorations.
I get the ones like me, but a lot of these houses have kids.

We don't have our tree up but t'other half has fairy lights along the ballustrades and tiny lights illuminated at the front of the house from the sand garden. We also have a white lights spiral tree in front of the house.

:kitty chris: :reindeer lights: :merry christmas:

                                Magic fairy lights... beautiful!

When I was a kid (and that's not Victorian times, I'm only 47  ) we had real candles in the living Christmas tree, a snowball lantern by the door (easier to do if you are born in a Nordic country with a guaranteed snowball weather) and some ice bucket lanterns here and there.

To make an icebucket lantern, let some water freeze in a bucket. Put a small bucket on it, weighing it down with a rock or similar, and fill the gap with water. When frozen, de-bucket and add a candle.

Then again, the real candles on the tree required a constant vigilance and often a decoration caught flames so to everybody's relief the lovely candles were quickly extinguished.

But it's the memory of the candles and the scent... :) But to be honest, today's fairy lights give the atmosphere and the magic with less risk to limb and body

                                Merry Christmas to all! :)
