Not a climber, but one of the Isoplexis is blooming (not very well admittedly) in there too...................

I am amazed that either are flowering now - though I don't know anything about Bomarea. I am still waiting for its growing season - let alone its flowering season.

How old is your Bomarea Peter? Mine is eighteen months now.

The Isoplexis is a pale imitation of what it should be....................

Sorry LongK - I seem to have missed that question. The answer is my Bomarea is 18 months old too and still not happy.

However, I am pleased to say my Canarina canariensis is happier. I returned after being away over Christmas to find it flowering.

Saw your Purple bell Vine lovely, did you grow it from seed? I have made two abortive attempts at growing these but with no luck and the seeds were very expensive

Stunning! Can't wait for mine now!

I find that bought seed has a real hit or miss rate of germination, probably down to the seed only being viable for a short time. Most bought seed has also been husked (the outer shell of each seed is removed) which may have some bearing too.
I got lucky with my first packet and got three plants. They produce seed freely most years (except 2012), so I just collect the seed and start them off early in the year. This seed germinates well.

            Peter or Keith,
I note, via Google that it produces seeds. If you have one or two seeds or seedlings to spare, I would love to give it a chance,
            thank you,
            Jenny

My horror climber at the moment is the Podranea ricasoliana which when cut back to the trunk goes 10 meters in one season, so I'm getting rid of it as it is going in all the wrong places ...

              Podranea 2 Jul 10.JPG

... this is what I see from where I sit at my computer ...

              Podranea ricasoliana on kitchen patio.JPG

... it starts on the right hand side of the patio in the orange grove, goes up to the deck, along the deck and across this trellis toward the kitchen door and hangs down to the patio ... a good 10 meters for sure ... and is going between the upper deck and the outdoor living room ceiling which will create massive problems!

A most stunning climber but it needs SPACE and then some ... the sad thing too is that it is a winter bloomer here from September to March.

Is it related to Jasmine Victoria? - another wayward child that,to my mind, that is too much hassle for the few sweetly scented flowers it gives. I have a constant battle keeping it away from our boundary trellis. It creeps through everywhere :gaah:

No it's not Jenny ... but it's definitely a wayward child here ...

                http://www.plantzafrica.com/plantnop/podranricasol.htm

Cobaea scandens (Cup & Saucer Vine) and Clerodendrum thomsaniae (the beautiful red/white one) can also be problematic here so I have/am taking all three to our river property where they can all run amuck ... together if they so choose ... :heehee:
