The cost of the Smart Meters and installing them is already included in the numerous taxes attached to the bill the consumer pays although the Government and Energy Companies don't exactly highlight that.:coffee::snorky:

Nor me. Apparently if mobile phone coverage is not good where you live smart meters are a bad idea; they don’t work properly. I won’t be getting one.

The COOP have just invited me to have one and I really can't see the advantage to me. It does not actively save me money and there is no guarantee that when I change supplier it will work.

Everything will be fine because the power companies will be announcing big price cuts any day now because the price of oil has dropped like a stone in the last week.............yeh right!

It looks like the cat is out of the bag.

Just watched a TV commercial about smart meters - we're using too much energy - we won't be able to generate enough in the coming years - 'they' want to know when we are using energy...

Reason...to discourage energy usage during peak load times - by banging up the price.

I think this is also how it panned out in Canada with smart meters.

If 'they' would just be honest with the public, then more may have taken a smart meter.

They also want to start charging for apparent power rather than actual power used - this will mean that those lovely cheap LED bulbs with capacitive droppers will cost four or five times as much to use.

All of this is the very reason that I wouldn't have a smart meter.

Why would anyone need a smart meter, to advise them that an appliance left on for three hours is more expensive than using it for one hour ?

As stated earlier up the thread, it is so they can bring in alternate pricing at peak times

I keep getting phone calls asking me to ring them back to book an appointment for an Engineer to fit a 2nd General Smart Meter but they all go on the answer phone and get deleted when I get the time. I've just received an e-mail saying it's my last chance to book that Engineer..........now there's a shame.:dunno:
"They" keep trying to push technical gear onto the consumer which just doesn't work as it should and leaves them with faults and issues that just stress out people.
