That's the case here too, @Sandy Ground . For every Brit living here fully registered, paying tax and in the French Health system, there are probably two or three flitting between France and the UK, trying to stay 'under the radar' in both countries. Many here have already sold up and gone back to the UK (there always were some disillusioned or elderly or drawn back by family ties) but there are thousands more now trying to sell in a saturated property market.

That's true, Sandy, there are many, financial and personal, reasons [and advantages] to have a residence in Spain without registering. I have several friends who live permanently in Spain and some who live for a good period in Spain and then return to the UK for the rest of the year.
Spain and the EU is supposedly coming out of the 2008 global recession but actually Spain is still in trouble with an unemployment rate of around 18% with nothing to encourage it to drop. Since 2008 a lot of Brits returned to the UK due to the drop in value of the pound sterling while also trying to sell their residence in Spain. The problem there, being in a recession, nobody wanted to buy a House in Spain and there are more than a million still up for sale.:dunno:
So I think with that economic background Spain will find an alternative to retain Brits while also trying to raise more revenue from them. It's surprising how much, even the part time residents, contribute in money to the economy generally in Spain and also to the local economy where they are living.:coffee::snorky:

Which brings us very neatly back on thread, heehee! Due to the climate, it's terribly important to keep up your fluid intake when abroad ;):Wino:
