Could someone please identify a plant for me going on description only? I haven't got a photo! Said plant grows to 1m - 1.2m and spread is up to 2m. The flowers are identical to Kniphofia but appear on the end of sprawling, Yucca-like stems. The spiny leaves are bluey-green, quite short and grow from the main stems. These plants are flowering here at the moment.
    Many thanks!

    Hi Noisette,

It sounds like an Aloe to me. Can't say which one but @longk is the Go to man for these.

MK isn't usually found sprawling around by people's front doors, Zigs:doh:Well, only after a really heavy night:biggrin:
Thanks @Anthony Rogers. The leaves do look Aloe-y but the flowers are a puzzle! Let's hope @longk is on the case:)
If necessary, I'll go and get pics tomorrow.

It sounds like an Aloe but without a photo it's hard to say which of the 500+ species it is :dunno:

Thanks all :) Aloe arborescens it is then! I'd no idea that aloe flowers looked like red hot pokers. Perhaps they're more noticeable this year because we've had a mild winter. :ThankYou:

.................maybe :heehee: It takes an expert to distinguish between many of the species.

If it's common, @longk, that'll be it. It's growing in French-owned gardens locally and plantspeople they're not! If it's not (traditionally) edible, they don't want to know:noidea:
Just as an aside...been planting out some Salvia dolichantha this morning. The first time that they've been successful from seed. Got some Lobelia tupa growing on as well :hapydancsmil:
