From a friend at Harkness Roses

Hi Woo thanks for your message. Not sure what the problem is not seen it before, but I suggest you cut the affected blooms and if it is a temporary problem the next flush of flowers should be fine. If not, please get back to me and I will investigate further

        Regards Anthony

I feel sure you and your colleagues will get to the bottom of this rose problem..

Yes it really is very humid out there today @wiseowl inwas whacked out when I got back from mine and had to sit down with a cuppa when I got back..

Just a thought @Imran Surti but you have sprayed an aerosol near your rose where the fall out spray has gone over your blooms.. Air-freshener or polish or similar.?

Thanks for your reply. No I haven't sprayed it with anything other than a product called "Rose Clear Ultra Gun" and that too after the spots appeared.

@wiseowl Thank you so much. For now I have decided to follow advice and cut off the affected blooms. The good news is that the newer bloom does not have the same symptoms.

              Thank you!

Sorry @Imran Surti I didn’t make that very clear, I didn’t mean that you had sprayed it deliberately..
I was wondering if it could have got some over spray from window cleaner, polish or anything sprayed nearby only I did catch a flowering plant with the overspray from polish I think it was once and it did make the flowers speckled.. That is what I meant..

@Marley Farley o ok, no nothing of that sort either. We just use water so that’s not a possibility.

                  Thanks

Good morning @Imran Surti my friend I have heard from a great Rosarian friend of mine

                    Good Morning Woo

How are you my friend nice to hear from you,, spotting on the petals is usually a result of dampness or rain splashing on the petals. Occasionally this can allow a common fungus, called botrytis to grow. But is very easily remedied. Cutting away the affected flowers should be all that is necessary. If you have any further problems with the blooms give me a ring ,ring me anyway and we will catch up

                    Best regards Jack

                    .................................................................................................
                    Botrytis

This fungal disease, like the others, is caused by poor air circulation and heavy moisture in the air. It generally occurs when rain collects and saturates the new blooms. Spots may appear on the petals where the fungus lands and, as the flower gets soaked by the rains (or by overhead watering), the bloom will turn into a brown fuzzy mass and eventually will drop. This disease mainly affects buds and petals, but it occasionally may damage the rose foliage as well. As with all of the previously mentioned fungal diseases, the solution is to keep the buds and blooms on your roses dry. Don't let water get on the buds and blooms when you're watering the plants and keep the area around the plant free of debris

good evening @wiseowl. Good to hear from you too.

Thank you for getting back to me. Do you think this is a result of misting (I do this often to all our plants). Like I said before the older blooms have been removed so I hope this is not carried forward.

Thank you so much for your help in figuring this out.
