Patrick Moore on TV the other evening said he is extremely sceptical of the results and thinks there must have been an error in the readings. He went on to say that life would become quite interesting if it proved not to be a mistake.

I think he is doing fantastically at the age of 88. :dbgrtmb:

Didn't some scientists actually find a way to pause it completely? Something to do with magnetism and supercooled gases or something, or maybe I'm 'misremembering'.

I am not aware of that Clueless. But its a mind boggling subject.

What Einstein said was that nothing could exceed the speed of light in a vacuum in space. However it is generally accepted that just after the big bank there was something called "inflation" in which space itself expanded faster that the speed of light, which is acceptable.

Another of Einstein's equations was that our combined speed through time and space is always a constant and is the speed of light. So if we stand still we are moving through time at the speed of light. But as we travel faster and faster and get closer to the speed of light, time slows down, so that the total of spacial and temporal speed is always constant.

At least, thats my explanation as I slow down - I am really going too fast. :heehee:
