There 2 I like, the one in the picture, is called valentine, it comes out red then turns pink, then there is the one I cannot find, it was a new introduction about 5 years ago, then it just vanished, it was black/ very dark purple, with a white tip. I can find it on Amazon, but they are outside the EU, and cannot ship into the uk.

I might have a look for D formosa or D cucullaria for a change.

I like the flower shape of D C, but never tried growing it.

Hi @Cuttings - that dark one is lovely - what is it called please? I also grow the white form - I like that the foliage is a lovely fresh green without the pink tinge - although I think Valentine is good because the colouring is more distinct.

I would recommend D formosa "Langtrees".

Just coming through in a shady bed at the moment. Slowly spreads and every few years I have to pull up some of it to keep it in place.

The one in my first picture, is Valentine, these are in 2 litre pots, overwintered, the foilage has the red tinge, when the plant is mature.

With Valentine, dont over feed it, feed once a year after it finished flowering, and use a NPK 0-10-10, and dont let it get too wet.
