Whilst the plants crop OK runners have never formed on my Strawberry Ostara. Has anyone noticed this before? The plants were young so I would have expected runners. Of course I'm assuming they are variety Ostara; that's what the label said!

Hello polypody, I grow Ostara and can't say I've noticed a lack of runners compared to Mara de Bois and Cirafine, which are the only other two varieties I grow. Could it perhaps be that your plants aren't stressed, so don't feel the need to reproduce?

Thanks noisette. I had not thought of plants not being stressed so I think as they will not need replacing for a year or two I might place them in different area of the garden & see what happens. I've grown strawberries for a number of years & this is the first time I'm 'runner-less'!

It's usually the opposite problem.....keeping up with and removing them  Lovely, tasty variety, though :dbgrtmb:
