Hi everyone, I want a few roses dotted about the allotment plot.

I know it’s very subjective as everyone’s noses are different but can anyone suggest some very fragrant Roses?

    Many thanks,

    James

Many roses are perfumed Jimb0b so at this point it would be easier if you chose the colour/s you would like and we can work round those for you. What type of roses are you thinking of having, shrub, climbers etc.?

Hi James. Perhaps a glance at the internet under. Most fragrant roses, might help. Hope you find what you are looking for.

Hi @Jimb0b , I agree with @Sheal , but, for a couple of old stand the test of time roses you can't beat my two favourites...

Iceberg....... A lovely white floribunda with a sweet rose scent.

Fragrant Cloud......... A deep red hybrid tea rose with a spicy scent.

Both are bushes that can either be kept small at around 3' or grown into larger bushes.

Good morning @Jimb0b my friend here are the Roses that have a very strong scent IMHO gained by my very old nose over many years:smile:

My favourites are Ena Harkness and Munstead Wood

and for a climber its got to be "Compassion"

Hi Sheal, colours I’m not too worried about a nice mix I thought would be good, style I can accommodate all but not standards, it is really just the fragrance I’m after.

I'll second KFF's 'Iceberg' (shrub rose) although I found it's thin stems struggled to support the weight of the flowers. The 'Iceberg' climber would be a better choice I think. Also Woo's 'Ena Harkness', an old rose that is still popular.

I prefer Floribunda's (shrub roses) as they are hardier than the others and give a great display right through to late Autumn. They have multiple heads on stems and most are perfumed.

A rose I had in my last garden was 'Lucky!' The only rose I've come across that stayed clear of disease right through the flowering season and a strong grower. The flowers are lilac/pink and put on a lovely display.

My favourite for perfume is 'Rob Roy', another older rose with red flowers and an old fashioned sweet, heady perfume. It's drawback is it suffers from black spot as the flowering season progresses.

There was a period when new roses became popular due to their appearance. Sadly in most cases there were the 'Good Looks' but no scent. Then in more recent times breeders have managed to put the scent back the bottle, Oops! Rose. So checking back over some of the older roses may help. Of course the good old internet can do most of the searching for us.
