:):):):):):):):):):):):):):). Thanks @shiney that's given me my first laugh of the day. It's chucking it down here and just spent the last 1/2 hour trying to A catch and B towel off 1 of the cats which was doing a perfect impression of a drowned rat having been outside for less than 5 minutes. I'm now hunting for Elastoplast for obvious reasons.

I dont believe that is the real world at all.

Its a bit like me voting for UKIP, and then saying I want to remain in the EU.

I remember the opposite, being taken out/given lifts to places and getting out and about, rather than being taken shopping (or them being at work).

Supermarket car parks were useful places for learner drivers to practice away from traffic on a Sunday, plus that's where I learnt how to reverse with a trailer hitched up. They also provided hardstanding sites for Sunday car boot sales.

The bargains to be had at the end of the day were also better when they were closed every Sunday.

Good morning I remember Sundays as well ,when I was a boy they always fell between a Saturday and a Monday in those days :lunapic 130165696578242 5: lovely days they were, spent daffodil picking then fruit picking, and then hop picking, that was our year of Sundays, fresh cooked bread and smoky tea from the fire;)

Spoke to driver delivering a parcel today, on zero hours contract feels obliged to work weekends as so busy ATM, but wife also has to work weekends in shop/supermarket so kids go to nursery all week and childminder all weekend.

Great for our 'booming?' economy, both partners going out to work, paying for childcare, cleaners, dog walkers, personal shoppers, ironers, people to do what used to be DIY (to get the extra money to pay for higher rents and house prices that have resulted from both partners going out to work), having no time to shop during the week or spend time with families at weekends other than perhaps going shopping with them on Sundays.

I see this extension of shopping (+ banks + nhs + whatever, etc.) as against the interests of workers and families, next thing I expect to see will be no time off work to see dentist/GP/hospital/anything appointments because you'll have to visit of a evening or weekend. Thank goodness I was lucky enough to get early retirement shortly after my daughter started school so there was somebody one of us to spend time with her.

I'd never expect anyone to have to work a 7 day week as a matter of course.

Its up to the employers to be forced into taking on more staff to cover the seven day week.

But I think quite often a lot of employees actually want the hours, more money for all those extra things everyone wants these days.

In the past I have often had to work a seven day week.6am-6pm weekdays and then worked long hours over the weekend for years so now I look forward to the precious time Mr K and I have together now that those long weeks are no more.

Luckily in those days we got paid time and a third in the week, time and a half on Saturdays and double time on Sunday's/BH's. nowadays though workers are expected to count weekend work as part of their normal working week but without the extra pay:frown:

Some people might be happy working weekends if they live on their own and for them the company of people helps keep them sane but me personally would hate to go back to those days of long days/weeks whatever the pay was and anyway my health now dictates as to what I can and can't do in a day,I just call it burnt out:sad:

Some times you have to ie when people pull sickey and fall ill at short noice etc and the boss can't get extra staff that are trained to do the job, I've worked 36 hours(in one shift)and 7 day weeks many times for the boss/company the job still has to be done
