    Hi,
I'd would like to grow sunflowers that produce large flowerheads with edible seeds. Can anyone suggest a suitable variety. The descriptions in the catalogues seem to focus on appearance rather than seed production
    Thanks
    Jen

Mongolian Giants produce seeds that are both fat + long, and have large heads. I'll try to remember to post pic of seeds, but chase me if I forget.

All of the large flowered varieties will produce loads of seeds.

I second that - the Mongolian giant is my favourite too - big seeds from heads the size of a dinner plate..

Possibly not the best for huge amounts of seed though, as it only tends to grow one flower in the UK & this years ones are getting on for 12 foot up... sometimes one of the farmers grows a commercial crop in the fields around here & Ive been meaning to ask him what variety he uses.

Don't know if you managed to watch it but Friday's Gardeners World had a really good feature on sunflowers.

It was about the different heights, colours etc that you can grow for cut flowers and borders

I know your question was about the seeds but i think it was well worth a watch if you can catch it on I-Player

Unfortunately, I missed that episode and can't use the player as I'm in France (well could if I messed around with IPN). Thanks for taking the time to let me know.
