Hi.I posted a long time ago about grow lights but at the time too expensive for the amount of seeds I was growing to grow. Now we have led battens which from what I have read are good for starting seeds and growing plants ready to be planted outdoors. I did look at the wolezek Grow Lights for Seed Starting with Stand, 2ft T5 Full Spectrum Seedling Grow Light for £39.99 +p.p from Amazon. On reading reviews some people were not impressed as very weak light.

On further reading they say a normal 2ft batten which is the size I need in Daylight with 5000k-6500k would be sufficient, I think they refer to it as blue light. The full spectrum is again so I read for encouraging flowing which I do not need. On youtube a lot of growers use these normal T5 daylight battens for starting seeds and growing plants ready for outdoor planting with good success, I have to point out my growing with be for flowers only. I have made my own stand ready for a batten to hang off it.

So the question is has any members gone down this route and if so what did they buy and was it a success?

I see screwfix have a 2ft Daylight led batten at 6500K and 3000Lm which I have read is a sweet spot for only £20. One reason I am looking at this setup is I planted a lot of balloon flower seeds on my window sill back in start of Feb and due to low light conditions, rain and cloudy only one has taken. I used to use wilko seed compost and never had any problem but no wilko in my town anymore. I purchased a bag of John Innes seed compost but it dries out so quick so may have to put a load of vermiculite in it. Thanks for any input on my experiment.

There's no need to concern yourself about the colour of the light for early growth.
The different colour lights are for growing indoors to raise the plants to maturity with an emphasis on the red/orange/yellow part of the spectrum for flowering plants and more towards the daylight/blue for the early/vegetative stage or foliage plants.
But as you're just raising seeds to later be grown on outside, a full-spectrum light will be ideal.
The Wolezek has a 32w led array which should be strong enough to get the plants underway.

But tbh - at this time of year the sun is strong enough and long enough to stop plants becoming lanky as long as they're not too warm.
