Chelidonium - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I just found some of this in my garden. As it is toxic and I have a young daughter I'm going to remove it, but it seems a very interesting plant.

I've never seen a plant dripping yellow sap before!

As they say you learn something new everyday!!

    Hi Paul,

It is an interesting and good looking plant. Beggars used to use it to make sores on their faces in order to get sympathy, if I saw someone with sores, i'd be off before I caught whatever they had.:runhills:

On a different note, the board moderated your post so only the mods could see it before I put it right. I think it did that to your original post the other day too, I don't think it likes your blog link.

If you make a post that doesn't appear again, just give me or one of the other mods pm, in case we don't notice it:dbgrtmb:

I really don't think it would do your daughter any harm, unless maybe she ate it or had a lot of exposure. I have heard it said that it is toxic and that its yellow sap cures warts. In my experience this is true; at least, I had a wart, put the juice on it and the wart went away. Not entirely conclusive, I admit, but I'll certainly try it if i get another wart.

It did not sting, burn my skin or cause a rash of any sort, which is more than I could say for over-the-counter wart cures.

I have seen or experienced nasty skin and eye problems caused by other plants, namely rue and euphorbia robbiae. But not chelidonium.

Looks like its cured itself Paul, it only normally does it to the first one or two posts, it seems to be if they have a link or a picture in the post.

The programme thinks it might be spam so holds it for someone to have a look at:thumbsup:
