Personally, I don’t think they damped off. Sounds to me they just toppled over under their own weight (spindly stems).

A few of my Chillies (153 remaining after discards & rogueing, and not a single spindly one). A few of my Cheyenne are now flowering.

The last seedlings to be pricked out

Thank you for that detailed explanation Shiney. I understand. You can still breed Chillies outdoors but for them, to be true to what you want, you need a plastic cage. Because peppers are wind pollinated, the plastic cage will prevent contamination. Then, you need to pollinate them by hand taking the pollen from one variety and applying it onto the flowers of the other variety you wish to cross it with.

Once you have your hybrid, do you cross the hybrids with themselves to stabilise the new cultivar?

My Naga Chillies (only 4 seeds germinated, T&M seeds :mute: but I think they were part of one of my many 6 packets for only £1.95 P&P orders combining reductions, multi-saves and £5 codes), a variety I've not grown before and I'm surprised how bushy they're growing. I've alternated growing them under T5s and my cheapo LEDs.

Hoping for free saved seeds for next year.

@Dublin George Sorry to take so long to reply but we have had computer problems. It's OK now as I've grown a new hard drive :blue thumb: :snorky:

We don't really bother to do that any more. As we only grow our hybrids, and the Nagas, we let them do their own pollinating. The Nagas are too posh to want to pollinate any hybrids - they don't seem to be compatible. :noidea:

We now get two fairly distinct versions of the hybrids. The plant growth and style are the same but one type has chillies abour an inch long and fairly thin and the other has them three quarters of an inch long and fatter.

This is one of the plants that I didn't bother to prune back to keep for next season and it has been producing all winter. It has just about given up the ghost now and I shall pick all the chillies. I'll give it a prune and see whether it survives.

I've run out of room in the heated greenhouse and it is still too cold to put things in the unheated ones so these are some of the peppers still in the indoor growing areas waiting for spring to arrive. DSCN2561.JPG DSCN2557 (1).JPG

One of hubby’s purchases today - Trinidad Scorpion Chilli

We normally pick up a different type of hot chilli plant each year from a local garden show but picked this one up from the garden centre. Hubby normally takes some of his chillis in to work for a chilli eating competition.
