Just found the History of the peace Rose which I can remember telling to children in my classes when we were growing it. Inevitably I've always had one in my garden wherever I've lived. The present one was planted to commemorate my wife's grandmother so is also called 'Nanny's rose'. Its such a great 'doer' and takes to hard pruning every March!!! It's planted where it can take advantage of water off the greenhouse roof. It's heading for its 40 years where it is! She was always a peaceful friend!!

Always had a least one in all of my childhood gardens as it was my Mums favourite.

We use to collect the petals and make up a concoction ...then proudly present her with a very dubious looking bottle of homemade perfume. Bless her, she always put on a surprised look ( as adults we now think it may have been one of horror!! :heehee:) and accepted our offering with such grace!!:imphrt:
