Or, you could be the neighbour from Heaven to her clue and solve *both* of your issues :dbgrtmb:

*Her* weakness is her hearing and that is affecting *your* quality of life.

*Your* strength is your tech expertise and that could affect *her* quality of life :dbgrtmb:

As Allan suggested, there are technologies out there, for the hearing impaired, which would enhance their viewing enjoyment while restricting it's impact on the neighbour (aka you!). I only stumbled across this a few years ago when my dearest friend's mother became increasingly deaf ;) No idea what it was; nor have I any need to find out.

Do the research, Clue; find the technology and gift it to your dear old neighbour. If it comes in under a certain amount (PM me) I'll even buy it for her! (But, only if you make certain she thinks its from you - or she may panic under "stranger danger") This way it's a win:win!

Still doesn't answer the science of your original question: but my thoughts/instincts lie in shiney's camp (just don't go telling him that - don't want him getting that full of himself ;) )

My father-in-law suffered from tinnitus, to the point where it was so bad he couldn't hear the television unless it was turned up loud. My mother-in-law suffered until they invested in some wireless headphones for him and he could adjust the sound on those while she watched television at the normal volume. Perhaps you could suggest these to your neighbour Clueless.

A friend of ours who had severe hearing impairment had something fitted to his TV that transmitted the sound to his hearing aid. After that both he and his wife were able to watch the TV without her being deafened by the volume.

He also had some gadget that was connected to the doorbell and telphone so that when either rang the lights in the rooms dimmed and then went back to normal.

I can't ask him about it as he died about 15 years ago and I'm not sure I'd get the answer in a seance :heehee:

Hey! "M" - watch it!!!! :nonofinger: :snork:

Oh Clueless - you could be MY neighbour :snork: (although I didn't get your note so I guess not):lunapic 130165696578242 5:

Seriously though I am aware that the TV is loud - some programmes are harder to hear than others and then the commercials are really loud

Late at night I put the text thing on - but they get it very wrong at times - and of course are out of synch if you are listening and lip-reading as well. Some programmes are worse than others.

My son has been moaning at me for years about the TV volume - I need to sort out some sort of hearing aid - I tend to get by lip-reading - as well as listening - but if the person I am speaking to turns away then I am in a bit of trouble:gaah:.

In my bedroom earlier, the lad had come in and I was chatting to him, when I suddenly realised there was a lot of reverb, so as a test I clapped my hands. The reverb lasted, I estimate, almost a full second. No wonder I get wound up in there, if the reverb is that bad, every slight noise must be stacking up to make a racket.

I must buy a carpet and get some more furniture.

Carpets and fairly heavy curtains are some of the best sound dampeners you can have in a room. :blue thumb:
