They always used to check my loft after they had a look inside my greenhouse.

OY- aren't you starting to do some clearing or mending at the greenhouse whilst waiting for the water to do it's disappearing trick? :)

Nope! Just pottering, looking and measuring things to start thinking about the interior which is much higher priority at the mo... they'll be diggers and whatnot on site soonish and a crane has to move the machine shed which will be floated directly over the greenhouse... Should it fall then I'd hate to have wasted all the efforts!

There's a very good chance a large area will be flattened using the diggers so not really beneficial to do it using a set of loppers and a saw lol

Aren't you going to be having fun with all the renovations :heehee::loll:. My house was a total do up job when I bought it and 8 years later it's still not finished ......... there's always something. Good luck with your new home :)

Thanks. This one will be a two phase build, outward then upward. Frankly can only afford the first at the moment but that's going to be the best part of 250k so might have to wait for a few rellies to pass away or a lottery win to complete the entire job!

That budget made my toes curl but it looks like the sort of project where the money will make a huge difference.

We kept a spreadsheet of house renovation costs when we started in 2000 up to converting the barn into a 2 bed annexe in 2003. Ive just opened it as I'd put the numbers out of my mind. Back then we spent £185K in renovation and have since replaced a lot of the fitted items (bathrooms and the likes). Crazy to think that renovation costs were higher than our house purchase price.

Found an old meter card too, last dated 1962 and presumably outside in the box ever since! IMAG2209.jpg IMAG2210.jpg

I think when you look at your plans it all becomes to make a bit of sense. Theres not going to be much of the original bungalow left

Edit : Heres what was left of our barn. The front wall was removed as it was leaning out by 10". The far side wall was left - that's rendered and facing the neighbours (the gable fell down as it was a single skin of blockwork). The near side wall is an internal wall - theres a lump of new build jutting out of there. But we had to play the councils game and 'renovate' the barn :wallbanging:

Rulez is rulez innit! Yes, the councils idea of preservation is quite unique I've found. Thankfully I don't have a similar issue :)

Went and met the team on site yesterday afternoon and the house looks completely different after a single day! 30ft of front hedge is gone for access, as is the front gate and posts. Kitchen removed etc All around a small, tidy, bonfire having a mug of tea. Very pleasant :) I showed the rest of them which trees were being removed, what else I wasn't and was bothered about and it all seems in a state of blissful 'early days'. I'm sure that will stop soon enough lol
They'll be burning kitchen, doors and trees and old sheds etc for a while; in that time the boss man can organise his diggers and logistics of hoofing the machine shed up and over to it's new location

Theyre not playing games are they ! Great to see a bit of demolition followed by the new look. Your kitchen was a bit newer than ours - we had the chicken tiles in mustard with dark brown lines and white kitchen doors with an aluminium rail at the top …. nice !

A chicken tile for those who didnt experience the late 60's / 70's

                        chicken.jpg

A site fire is good - saves a fortune on skips.

How long before you plan to move in ?

About 6 months, hopefully sooner. Cost of rent and mortgage and two lots of council tax is pretty crippling!
I'm in a minority but I actually quite liked the old tiles lol Pics didn't do them justice, they were a real gorgeous blood red with slight gold edging and a few odd images. Anyway, they're gone now and after a bit of extra widening the kitchen becomes the dining room

I can imagine. And the early months will be lots of outlay with not a lot to be seen for the expense. We planned to do something similar but a first time buyer offered us the asking price if we could complete in a month so we moved from a 5 year old house in perfect condition to what could only be described as a slum. Me asking myself 'what have I done ?' quite often.
The pain is worth it in the end though.
