I need to plan these raised beds out carefully instead of just picking plants I love and buying them then hoping they fit in. Any good sites where can I look at plans - or just pics with plants clearly labelled etc?

They're getting on a bit now, but Christopher Lloyd's, Beth Chatto's and (to a lesser extent) John Brooke's books are still invaluable for planning tips. BC used to advise planning on a triangle basis, taking into account height, spread, evergreen or deciduous, foliage colours. Her borders were based on a succession of triangular 'pictures'. Always taking into account the foliage and treating the flowers as a bonus. Alan Gray is a good designer. I'm sure there are lots of tips on YouTube etc. I'm not very up-to-date on them

This is a great help Noisette, thanks. I'd rather have a book than watch a YT video. Will go and look for those books, ta x

I've just had a quick look on Amazon UK and Christopher Lloyd's 'Well Tempered Garden' is still available. Beth Chatto's 'Dry' and 'Damp Garden' books too. 'The Thoughtful Gardener' is specifically about design. There is a guide to East Ruston Old Vicarage by Alan Gray, but don't know how helpful it would be....
