Is this a suspicion or can you back this up at all?

I noticed a change in political stance after the drowned Syrian boy was widely shown in the media. It seemed that the word 'migrants' had changed to 'refugees'.... [IMG]

I think David Cameron is usually a bit naïve internationally, (wanting to arm the Syrian rebels even if they are Al Quaeeda), but notice his pledge was to take refugees from camps just outside Syria. This dissuades refugees jumping on dangerous boats, spoils the people traffickers incomes, and maximises the number of refugees taken, (people fleeing a war zone). He also pointed out that at a billion pounds overall, Britain was already helping the Syrians more than anybody else and that help at source was stopping even more people jumping in the boats to reach safety. Respect levels jump a bit.

Farrage who I usually regard as a complete buffoon made an address to Europe in which he said that his preferred solution would be to commit significant amounts to increasing the size and quality of refugee camps in the region, (Turkey has done this). This has the same effects as Cameron's strategy but helps even more people and means they haven't got far to travel home when the region becomes safe again. I was a bit surprised.

The Euro policy of ignoring the root causes and just distributing the refugees who make it here among the EU member states amounts to passive reaction and neglect.

My definition of refugee vs migrant is the families fleeing a war zone are just that. Mums and Dads and kids. A lot of the migrants are males aged 20 to 40 and as mentioned previously are wearing better trainers and carrying better phones than I have. They also look angry and potentially dangerous in a lot of cases. To check whether this is just a suspicion just google the news on how many Pakistani, Afghan and Iraqi passports and Id cards were chucked over fences in the main gathering areas in Hungary.

Just observations, probably flawed, but based on what I have seen in obviously censored media.

Anyone think Hungary are doing the right thing?
Personally I tend to think they are.
If a stronger line was taken at the start, instead of Germany throwing open its doors, a lot less would be trying to make the journey.

When the news filters back, hopefully some will be less inclined to make that dangerous journey.

Good evening we are indeed fortunate that we are an island surrounded by water.

It now transpires that Germany has halted its welcoming stance e.g. stopping trains from Austria and introducing border control in the south.

I wonder if this is why...

                ....but there are boats.

On a lighter note, this post made me recall a Steve Wright oneliner

I actually heard them referred to as "Migrant Refugees" on the news tonight:scratch::smile:

They seemed to have an awful lot of anger in Hungary today storming the border and throwing stones, because their path has been blocked, its a pity that, if they do actually come from Syria?
Some of that anger couldn't be directed against ISIS.

Well, in truth, the British Government is trying to do as little as possible in the practical sense. Having said that, we are the second biggest financial contributor in the aid program having given nearly a Billion pounds.
Europe is now falling apart with division on how many refugees/migrants they will and the EU telling them that they should do more and take more. Hungary seems to have reverted back to the 1940's in the way they are dealing with the situation, barbed wire, fences, teargas, sticking to the rules in defence of actions that are futile. Most of the Refugees/migrants just want to get to Austria and Germany and in the end that's what they will do. The Schengen agreement is worthless with France, Austria, Slovakia and the like now talking about border controls being brought in. We will take some immigrants/refugees in but nothing like the 120,000 number that the European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker is telling the EU countries to take...........and which most of them won't.

Kind of what has been going on in Calais, apart from the tear gas, for quite some time now.

OK I'm a little bit confused now ( doesn't take much :rolleyespink:) I thought the Syrian refugees were Christian people under threat from ISIS, now transpires that a great many of them are Muslim, so why are they leaving Syria?

I noticed on the news that many are young men who have left their families behind.
The hope is that once settled in Europe they can then bring the family over.

Sounds a bit strange to me, to regard such people as refugees.

Personally, I'd never leave my family in a dire position to fend for themselves in a war zone, if its as bad as they say, I know that its often thought that the family cant make the terrible journey, but it makes me question just how desperate their situation is.

One other thing that seemed strange to me was, that the child who was washed up on the beach, the body was returned to Syria for burial, by the rest of the family, now if these people are actually fleeing from certain death, how was that possible?
