The supermarket savings thread (2020)

We're noticing that a while after the newly branded stuff replaces Value, it goes up in price by up to 20%.

Will the ONS pick that up in their inflation monitoring, or ignore it because the label has changed?

 

Normally $6.99 per 50 lkter bag. Got these today for $3.44 and now I have enough for my winter/spring seedlings

Asda to scrap price guarantee scheme next month

What they say is a load of nonsense, as about 50% of receipts found blowing around in their car parks will produce a payback (+ 10%) as stuff is cheaper elsewhere.

Be prepared for price increases and even more customers going to Aldi/Lidl.

 

Price increases have already started because in Tesco yesterday they were selling granary loaves for £1.30 each.Not so long ago they were £1.19 each and when they went up to that price we got ourselves a bread maker and have never looked back

Those loaves would be around 12p or 13p each when reduced at the end of day to 90% off, each spilt into about 3 or 4 and frozen. Sometimes they go down to 99% off and are sold for pennies when they have lots of bakery products left unsold and put 2 or 3 tall, shelved trollies out laden with stuff.

If we run out of cheap (reduced expensive) bread then the breadmaker goes on. Have been buying flour from Waitrose on offer at buy 2 get 1 free together with carton grape juice (for making white wine @ 35p/bottle) using £4 off £20 shop vouchers they sent a sheet of, calling in when we visit a nearby ar boot sale.
