You should try Crimson Crush. Much better taste, good crops and largish tomatoes!

My outdoor Crimson Crush have done well, thanks for recommending them @Susieshoe , they beat my indoor varieties being the first to ripen. Next year I will try them in the greenhouse too. Yes they are tasty, my only reservation is I am only getting 2 or 3 fruit per truss.

That would be useful, but don't think there is one.

Looking forward to the taste test this year. I’ve grown to rely somewhat on my outdoor/bush tomatoes, which have begun cropping. They’re ok, and certainly better than supermarket offerings, but I think there might be better choices out there. Problem is, I always compare to ‘Sungold’, a hard act to follow :)

Mine are just starting to ripen and I’m getting good size trusses. They’re planted in a bed that was enriched with the remains of last years comfrey feed - I bloody love that stuff!!

Do you treat them as cordon or bush @Susieshoe ? I am sideshooting mine but they seem to be more bush like.

They’re supposed to be cordon but I’ve let them develop as they seem to want to and I just remove the odd side shoot here and there. I think they’re happier if they’re allowed to go their own way!

Mr Redwing and I did a taste test of the six varieties we are growing. In order of flavour these are our ratings out of 10:

                            Black Russian: 8
                            Sungold: 8
                            Tumbling Tom Yellow: 7.5
                            Tumbling Tom Red: 7
                            Sweet Aperitif: 6.5
                            Orkado: 6

This was a very small sample and only two tasters and Mr Redwing is a hard marker.

My first Moneymaker eaten. :) Such a nice feeling that they were grown by yourself and not out of a supermarket.
