    So i sowed some tumblers,sungold and other bits and bobs on a heater. Placed it next to window. Went away for 3 days but got delayed and came home 7 days later and theyve all sprouted but mega leggy . 2_3 inches!

    Staight under a 50w led light where theyve straightened up but still v leggy.
    Off again for a week so will see how they look in a weeks time? Might just bin them or replant them deeper maybe ?

    The rocket i planted is going nuts so not all bad...

      Oh definitely repot them more deeply! They'll root along the stems and make good, strong plants....

        That’s the trouble with sowing tomatoes early. I ll be waiting until mid February at least.

            It does depend on your location and if you have grow lamps. @Snorky85 I know you have lamps but I would still wait till the end of the month for your main sowing, otherwise they will be growing very quick and competing for space & light. If you don't already have much under your grow lamps then why not try one or two seeds - no harm in experimenting with your new grow lamps and greenhouse.

            Generally I would agree with this, and maybe even later if you don't have a greenhouse or up North in cooler climes.

              Just to contradict myself about early sowing, I am starting my tomato rootstock tonight. I will be sowing the scions in 4 days or so. The grafting process shocks the plants and they stop growing for a fortnight whilst they recover, so that is the reason I am starting now. I do have grow lamps as well, so can keep them nice and stocky for a few weeks.

                For the past few years I've sown my first Toms the 3rd week in Feb (under lights) this has worked well in the past. Can always sow another set. Keep looking at the back of the packets and think, not yet:)

                  Hi @mazambo , I can warmly recommend Tesco Baby Plum tomatoes. The seeds from the fruit germinate quickly, and the plants are exiting as they have not been bred for commercial seeds- you don't really know how they will behave :)

                  I have grown them in large pots for some years, they do well outdoors in a sheltered place. Some of the plants have been trailing and neat, some upright and 6 feet tall :biggrin: All have been heavy croppers.

                  The small fruit mature fairly early and are lovely. I'll sow mine next weekend or later.
