Thank you @LunarSea, that's very helpful. I have recently opened an account with Principality Building Society who were offering 7.5%, but only for 6 months and you can only pay in £200 per month. I'm not sure if it's still available.

This is an excellent comparison site for savings accounts. I look at it every day . Make sure that you select the rate option in the sort function at the top of each list to get the best rates listed first.

If anyone wants savings account they open online but can then pay into by cheque, I highly recommend Paragon, OakNorth, or Charter (which @LunarSea mentioned). Charter has a minimum investment of £5,000 for most of its fixed accounts, but OakNorth is usually only £1.

Charter currently has an Easy Access at 4.36% (which could drop, of course, as it is not fixed). I tend to go for shortish fixed rates unless I know I am about to need the money. Paragon has 4.15% for one yr at the moment. OakNorth gives you enhanced rates for reinvestment, so I have just locked in some maturing funds for another yr with them at 4.25%, where new savers would get 3.85%. Every little helps! :)

West Brom has a four access account currently at 4.55% which would suit anyone wanting a competitive rate, without being tied up and needing only limited withdrawals, with a monthly interest option. The rate is variable but has always been competitive.

I had a notice account with them for a while. When a rate drop is advised, they give you a notice free period to withdraw without penalty which is a plus :).

I do it [Wordle] every day too @Bluejayway and @Victoria. Had a recent short run of 3s, but a 4 today. I also do Quordle [several options] and Weaver. I sometimes do Octordle as well.

The thing that's made me happy today is - the little [alpina] clematis cutting I took a while ago has produced some proper top growth. It was looking hopeful, but today it's got an inch or so of new foliage. I want to take a cutting of my Lemon Dream macropetala, but I had to cut it right back in spring to move it, and there's no suitable material just now. Roll on spring and I'll have a go at it then!

The water company notified me they had raised my payments from £19 per month to £27 a month.
I was also £23 in debt.
I got them to call me back and a very nice lady who actually spoke English contacted me the other evening, after a few questions regarding income she said I could go on their special tariff.
Got a new bill today, my payments are now £16 a month and I'm £10 in credit.

Definitely worth getting in touch with them.

The Council came and graveled our lane ... normally it is a pot-holed dirt road ... we are to the left ...
