My regular SM has maybe 30 self-checkouts and 3 peopled tills, but I rarely see more than one of these in operation.

Yeah I've done home delivery for some time now for all the common stuff, I still go once a week to get the stuff you like to pick for yourself, but it's about one bag full or less, so much easier than messing around with a full trolley of stuff.

Mind you I don't have anybody to train.

I have been haveing weekly deliveries for over 15 years now. We don't drive, so the cost of a bus trip to supermarket is already above the £7 monthly fee I pay for as many deliveries I want.

Plus my weekly shop takes 15 minutes, which is great for my situation and patience.

The drivers know us well so when we moved house each one of them made a comment and compared the two areas and asked how we are settling in :)

I do nip into a Morrisons for fresh bread etc when I commute from the office. It's nice and I love to hunt the reduced to clear oddities- today we had posh Cavolo Nero I would never had paid £3 for, but for £0.60 definitely worth a go. (It was very nice indeed):) We also try various new/ odd/ vegan yellow label things just to see what they are like- not a big loss if they are not good and inspiring if they are.

That takes me to the self check outs, I used to buy something like olives or a magazine to tone down my cheapskating when using the lovely human tills, but self check outs don't cast even imaginary judgmental looks at me when I scan my yellow labelled lot

Stick with it @cactus_girl , we haven’t done a proper shop in a supermarket for years now! We alternate deliveries between four supermarkets, just wish we could still get Ocado but we’re literally 200 yards outside their delivery limit since we moved.

The only problem is getting unsliced bread, white and wholemeal. And wholemeal flour for making cakes. Preferably with raising agent included. A good idea rotating the supermarkets. But it's quick with ASDA as I know their products off by heart and I visualise myself going round it! But I haven't missed it.

            @ViewAhead
I always try my central heating early September, that way I can get it fixed before it's really needed and before the rush the morning after the first cold night.

We had the annual maintenance done in September @NigelJ and it's OK dor another year but will need some new parts at the next service. He only does the boiler tho so I turned it on for an hour this Sunday, just to check, and we have a wee leak in the smallest radiator at the back of the hall which our plumber can easily come and fix.

We're just starting to go to single figures at night so not needed yet.

I've got about 10 days to go before dropping below 10°C at night.

My forced air natural gas furnace is happily belting out heat when needed. :)

My mesh fortress is paying off. After being attacked numerous times and getting resituated once, new life is emerging. Thanks again @hailbopp !!

                    I'm very happy!

And the new water pump for the clothes washer will be in later today or early tomorrow so there's a possibility I'll have the machine up and runnung by this time tomorrow. Got my tools and finger lights ready to go! :)

But I am happy doing a weekly shop. Why? Because so often I find reduced items at very low prices and can use them and/or freeze them. As far as I know you can't get reduced items from online shopping.

You still get the special offers online but the problem I find is they often sell out before your delivery is picked.

Special offers here can be spontaneous and never make it to the website. Staff go round clearing shelves of meat/fish/cheese/salads and all sorts that are on their sell-by date and put them in the "no waste" cabinets for customers to pick. I always look and sometimes buy.

I got a free bottle of whisky yesterday, I said I didn't order that one, the one I ordered was on offer but obviously sold out, according to my receipt.

The driver said it's probably a mistake by the picker, you have not been charged.

                          £23 when I looked it up.:ccheers:
